Nose job can provide a nose which is balanced with rest of face and natural-looking.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Surgical operations performed with a closed technique has a lower angle of view in terms of surgery. But the surgeon inserts a micro into the nose and performs over a monitor. The closed rhinoplasty method also has the advantage of reduced recovery times.

Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty surgery is a procedure in which an incision is done between the nose holes for accessing easily the structures of the nose. This allows the surgeon to perform by a direct view. There may also be some scarring in open rhinoplasty.

Tiplasty

Tiplasty refers to reshaping and fixing. In this procedure, only the tip of the nose effects. In other words, tip plasty is one type of rhinoplasty. Open and closed techniques can be applied for this procedure in accordance with the needs of the patient.

Medicine

Our surgeons in Istanbul will examine your medical history, ask you about any current medications and medical conditions. Some medications may increase the bleeding so avoid medications containing aspirin or ibuprofen. Take only medicines that have been approved or prescribed by the surgeon.

Smoking

Smoking slows the healing process after surgery and makes more susceptible to infection. It is important that, stop smoking at least 2 weeks before the operation.

Nutritional Supplement

Patients who will undergo surgery have to avoid taking some food and supplementary which causes surgical complications. Patients should especially avoid vitamin E supplements, ginger, ginkgo and ginseng.

Sun Protection

Before and after the rhinoplasty, the surgeon recommends to stay completely out of the sun. This protection will give your nose and face time to heal and will allow the most serious side effects to pass.

Alcohol Usage

Alcohol works as a blood thinner – making blood platelets less active, and ultimately inhibiting their ability to coagulate. Therefore the surgeon doesn’t recommend drinking alcohol before or after surgery increases your risk of post-surgical bleeding.

What to Expect After Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can be performed under general anesthesia, depending on the exact procedure and the person’s preference. It is performed in a surgeon’s office, an outpatient surgery center or a hospital like Vanity Cosmetic Surgery Hospital in İstanbul, Turkey. Often done in an outpatient facility or in a plastic surgeon’s office. Along with that, complex procedures may require a short hospital stay. After performing a rhinoplasty the surgeons usually apply a sterile cotton or gauze into both nostrils. The cloth is usually removed in the first week after.

After surgery there will be a mild to moderate amount of pain and discomfort associated with the surgery. This should be easily controlled with oral medications. Generally, the pain and discomfort should begin to decrease around 72 hours after the procedure.

Bruising and swelling are not unusual after the surgery. These symptoms usually worsen in the second day after the surgery, and then improve regulary after that; this is normal. The amount of bruising that occurs varies significantly from one person to the next. If only the symptom and / or tip of the nose is performed on, mild bruising is normally expected.

Relax

Many patients experience bruising and swelling during the first 1-2 weeks. At first, you may not be able to see the improvements that were done during surgery. However, don’t worry – most of the bruising and swelling should disappear after the first 10 to 14 days.

Back to Work/School

Most patients are able to go back to work/school just one week after their rhinoplasty, despite a small amount of bruising or swelling. Every patient is unique, so it’s best to consult with your doctor to determine how much time to take off given the gravity of your rhinoplasty surgery and your job activity.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Continues

People who have a rhinoplasty can see the improvements made by the surgeon when bruising and swelling decreases, but it is normal to have mild swelling for up to a year. However, this is usually difficult for others to notice.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Period

Bruising and swelling is not uncommon for recovery period. It depends on both surgical technique and on a variety of factors about the patient. Factors such as whether nose bones (osteotomies) were broken or not, the degree of dissection / rise of soft tissue through the bone-cartilaginous framework and whether the operation was performed as an open or closed one. Among the factors about the patients are age, thickness of skin, eating, bleeding tendencies / disorders and use of blood thinners.Clearly, most of these variables are not in control of the patient; but the level of bruising and swelling may be minimized by following these suggestions:

Rhinoplasty Swelling Stages

Immediately after nose surgery, you’ll have noticeable swelling around the nose, but it should largely subside over the course of a few weeks. Most of the swelling will disappear in about 3-4 months, but it will look bigger in photos. It may take up to a year before the nose gets its final shape. It is very common for patients (in the first few weeks after surgery) to state that their upper lip is stiff and it is hard for them to smile. Fortunately, this recovers on its own in the first few weeks after the surgery because the swelling decreases. Don’t worry, your smile will come back…

Bruising

Avoid multivitamins / herbal supplements / tea that include high levels of Vitamin E, ginseng and ginkgo – these may increase your bleeding. If you have a history of bleeding or bruising easily, bleeding disorders or if you have a family member that has bleeding disorder, inform your doctor prior to the surgery.

Ice Packs

The ice packs that will be applied on the cheeks during the first 48 hours may be helpful for these situations. You should absolutely avoid smoking. Herbal supplements such as bromelain, papaya extract and arnica may be helpful, but few studies proven their effectiveness. Being exposed to sun during the first few months after rhinoplasty may cause the skin over the nose become red or “spotty”. Besides, it is possible for you to have sunburns easily. The patients should wear sunscreen and / or wear a hat during the first few months after surgery in order to avoid the problems stated above.

Rhinoplasty Surgery Recovery Timeline

Surgery Day

The healing process begins when you are taken to the recovery room after surgery. You may not remember this process immediately after the operation. There will be a splint on your nose. And also, there may be a tampon in your nose. If tampons are not needed, a special pad is placed under your nostrils to collect the small amount of bleeding that may occur on your first night post-rhinoplasty. You will feel a sinus congestion and a slight pressure around your nose. Later, when the pain medications given for the operation wear off, you will use pain medications at home if you need them. You can use a pack of frozen peas to reduce swelling and relieve pressure. Once the dripping has stopped, you will begin to clean the small incision in your nose regularly with oxygenated water. You will use ointment to prevent crusting under your nostrils. You can eat something if you want. In that case keeping hydrated is crucial for health and well-being. In fact, you need to drink adequate amounts of water. Some grogginess from surgery may persist. You should avoid falling, or banging your newly completed nose on anything. Due to, after surgery, your friend or loved one may help you on the first days of surgery. Our patient consultants at our Istanbul Vanity Cosmetic Surgery Hospital will be with you during this process.

Days 2-3

These two days can be a little difficult, but they are generally not painful (pain level is defined by most patients as 3-4 out of 10. Make sure to use medications to relieve pain). You may feel nauseous. Breathing through your mouth can make it difficult to sleep. Nasal washing with salt water can make you feel better.
To minimize swelling, sleep with 2 large pillows. This also helps reduce bruising and limits bleeding.
You can return to light activities after the first day. Do not bend over, and try not to lift anything over 2 kilograms.
Do not use aspirin and ibuprofen.
If you have a tampon in your nose, you should visit your surgeon to have the tampon removed on the 2nd day.
Don’t be afraid, things will only get better from now on!

Week 1 (Days 4-7)

During these times, you will feel your splint loosening. Your surgeon will remove your at the end of the first week, along with your stitches.
At this stage, you can see the basic shape of your new nose. You will have a lot of swelling. However, swelling is generally symmetrical. For this reason, you can visualize the final shape your nose will take even at this early stage.
You can return to work (or school). However, you should not lift heavy and avoid strenuous activities. On the other hand, some patients may be asked to take 2 weeks off for recovery.
To prevent sunburn, you should avoid the sun for at least 2 months or wear a hat.

Week 2 (Days 8-14)

Milestone: Return to Work
Around the middle of the second week, 10 days after rhinoplasty, the bruises usually become significantly faint.
Generally, after 1 week or less, swelling and bruises become almost unnoticeable. You can return to work or school around the 8th day.
However, some patients are required to be off for 2 weeks after rhinoplasty. If this happens, you can return to work or school on day 14.

Weeks 3 and 4 (Days 15 – 30)

Surgeons generally allow patients to return to their normal exercise and activity level at the end of the 3rd week.
You should wait at least 1 more month for contact sports or very heavy exercises. If you wear a protective mask, you can return to exercise sooner. Always follow your surgeon’s recommendations.
Most of your swelling will already be gone. It takes the longest time for the swelling at the tip of the nose to pass. You will notice that your nose becomes more elegant as the days pass.

Month 2-3 – Rhinoplasty Recovery Nearly Complete!

You will start to look better every day. The swelling in the nasal bridge usually disappears completely at this time. The tip of your new nose may still be a little numb. But the feeling at the tip of the nose will return to normal more and more every day. If you get an open rhinoplasty, your surgery scar will continue to fade.

1 year post-procedure

12 months after your rhinoplasty operation, all (or almost all) of the swelling in your nose will be gone. Your surgery scar (if any) will be almost completely faded. At this stage, see your surgeon for evaluation of your surgical outcome and scar tissue control.

Tips to shorten rhinoplasty procedure recovery time

Ask questions: If anything worries you or you have questions about nasal care between your follow-up visits, call your surgeon. If you hit your nose, have a new bleeding, or notice excessive swelling after the 3rd day, contact your surgeon. Being in contact with your surgeon also allows you to be more comfortable during the healing process. As the Vanity family in Turkey, we are always here to answer your questions.

Avoid overdo activity: If you do not follow post-operative instructions, such as not bending over, not lifting anything heavy, and not exercising to increase your blood pressure, you are at higher risk of experiencing complications.

If you do not follow post-operative instructions, such as not bending over, not lifting anything heavy, and not exercising to increase your blood pressure, you are at higher risk of experiencing complications. All of this can cause bleeding. Walking at home is not a problem, it is even recommended to keep circulation normal. But you shouldn’t do even moderate exercise until your surgeon allows it. You will likely need to avoid strenuous exercise for 6 weeks or more. If you forget to sleep propped up, the swelling may increase. Your surgeon may recommend that you avoid salty foods so that the swelling dissipates as quickly as possible.

Get help from your friends: A friend or family member should drive you home after the surgery. He/she should also stay with you for 24-48 hours after the operation. You must not lift anything or anyone. For this reason, you may want to arrange a sitter for your child for 1-2 weeks.

Watch out for the infection: If you run a fever, become nauseous, notice excessive skin redness or a runny nose, contact your surgeon immediately. These may be signs of infection. Your surgeon has ways to deal with such complications. However, you should inform your surgeon immediately. No matter how qualified your surgeon is, it is your responsibility to keep the area clean to prevent postoperative infection.

Avoid bumping your nose: Babies, children or pets can hit your healing nose. So be very careful when holding them or when they are in your lap. Because of such a thing, you don’t want your surgery results to disrupt or your healing process to prolong. If you are wearing prescription glasses or sunglasses, your glasses should not rest on your nose belt until your surgeon permits. You can tape your glasses to your forehead.

Arnica and Bromelain: These supplements can help against swelling and bruising. Ask your surgeon for their opinion on these supplements and when to use them before / after the operation.

Wearing Glasses After Rhinoplasty

Immediately following a rhinoplasty every patient experiences moderate pain and swelling of their nose. The act of wearing eyeglasses may put weight and pressure on the bridge of the nose, causing additional pain and discomfort.

It’s critical for patients to protect their nose following rhinoplasty. Even though glasses are light, surgeons worry that wearing them too early post-surgery. Because it may negatively alter the underlying nasal structure which is somewhat unstable early on. Surgeons worry that the nose can develop unwanted indentations or bumps that will negatively alter the final result.

In terms of recovery, it’s also important to note that all patients will have some form of casting over their nose for a week or two post-procedure. This often hinders the fit of glasses, making them difficult to wear.

Recommendations

After surgeon remover the cast one week after surgery, you can wear glasses immediately, as long as they do not cause pain or soreness.

The weight of today’s lightweight lenses and frames make concerns that they will shift the nose irrelevant. The nose is structurally stable after most rhinoplasty. The cuts in the bones that glasses might destabilize are lower than where glasses sit. It’s true that glasses that fit before rhinoplasty may not fit after, but in most cases they cannot harm a result.

  • If glasses cause soreness when wearing them, then take them off for a while.
  • The weight of the glasses can be reduced by taping the glasses up to the forehead if they create soreness.
  • Glasses should not be worn in the first 6 weeks after surgery if engaging in activities where the glasses might be hit. Since contact sports are avoided for 2 months, this is relatively unlikely.
  • You should not wear masks that compress the face, like SCUBA or snorkeling masks, for 2 months.

Difference Between Rhinoplasty & Septoplasty

What is Septoplasty?

Today, nasal congestion and accompanying breathing complaints are common complaints. One of the reasons for these complaints is the deviation of the septum. The middle part that separates both nostrils is called the nasal septum. This part (septum) consists of cartilage and a thin bone structure and is covered with mucosa. The displace of the middle part that separates the two nostrils to the right or left is called the deviated septum. If you have difficulty breathing out of one or both of your nostrils or have suffered physical trauma to the nose that has impacted your ability to breathe. Then you may be a candidate for a septoplasty to correct your deviated septum and enhance your breathing.

A septoplasty can be performed as a closed or open procedure depending on the complexity of your septal deviation. When surgeon performs as a closed operations, makes a small incision in the inner lining of the nose, called the mucosa, to provide access to the cartilage and bone of the septum. Depending on the specifics of each patient’s needs, surgeon removes parts of the septum entirely, then trims and repositions, or reconstructs completely with grafts.

Rhinoplasty vs. septoplasty

If you have a visibly warped nose and a deviated septum that impacts your ability to breathe, a septoplasty with elements of a rhinoplasty can correct both your functional and aesthetic concerns in one combined procedure. The main concern of a septoplasty is to fix a deviated septum. And generally leave the external shape of the nose untouched. However, it is important to be aware that when a septoplasty is performed it can be a useful opportunity to correct some aesthetic concerns.

Whether you undergo a rhinoplasty or septoplasty, you should spend time away from work while your body heals and recovers. Most patients take 5-7 days off work. Most swelling resolves within the first several weeks. Although a degree of minor swelling can persist for the first 6-12 months after a rhinoplasty. Surgeon use nasal splints and stitches after the procedure and remove after one week.

Septoplasty and rhinoplasty involves general anesthesia. Both treatment options are also typically performed as outpatient procedures. The duration of both procedures is typically less than three hours.

About Revision Rhinoplasty

Are you a candidate for revision rhinoplasty?

Original rhinoplasty procedure has resulted in an unwanted outcome for any reason, you may be a good candidate for revision rhinoplasty. Procedure is performed for people who have both aesthetic and functional reasons. If your concern is of a functional or cosmetic and you are displease with your nose after primary rhinoplasty, you may be a candidate for revision rhinoplasty.

How long do you need to wait before planning a secondary rhinoplasty?

If you are planning a revision rhinoplasty, it is important to wait at least one year. Because before undergoing a surgery you should ensure that all swelling has resolved. Surgeons assess accurately nose after it has had sufficient time to heal.

What is done in a revision rhinoplasty?

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. Although incisions are primarily internal, a small external incision is sometimes used. Surgeons reshape the bone and cartilage of the nose and care to protect the breathing function of the nose.

What to expect of your secondary rhinoplasty recovery timeline?

Although there are some similarities between original and a revision rhinoplasty, recovery process has a few big differences. The recovery period for surgery lasts one or two weeks. And patient need to stay home from work for seven to 10 days following surgery. Patients can expect to experience swelling, pressure and pain/discomfort in the first few days after surgery.
As a result, the decision of undergo surgery is personal. Choosing an experienced, surgeon who understands your needs is the best step of a successful outcome.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Confidence

The most important benefit of a this procedure is confidence! Nose job improves self-confidence of people who are self-conscious about their appearance and shape of their nose.

Rhinoplasty to improve breathing

Nose curvature can be caused by congenital or subsequent traumas. When a deviated septum is severe, it can block one side of your nose and reduce airflow, causing difficulty breathing. Rhinoplasty, not only fixes the shape of the nose but also improves the patient’s breathing. While rhinoplasty fixes the shape of the nose externally; it also reforms the curvature (deviation) inside. Thus, patients will have a wonderful appearance and a healthy nose.

Reformation of a broken nose

Nasal bone fracture is one of the most common fractures in the human body. Accidents, beats or falls are the most common causes of nose fractures. Rhinoplasty can easily repair the fractures of the nose. After the operation, the functional complaints of the patients such as difficulty in breathing disappears and their nose become more aesthetic.

Rhinoplasty solve sinus problem

Sinusitis is a common inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. Frontal sinusitis can cause pain just above your eyebrows, and your forehead may be tender to touch. Maxillary sinusitis can cause your upper jaw, teeth, and cheeks to ache and may be treated as a toothache. Ethmoid sinusitis can cause pain around your eyes and the sides of your nose. It is possible to get rid of such complaints with this procedure.

Rhinoplasty is a solution for snoring

Rhinoplasty may stop or reduce snoring, as well as other sleeping problems. 23% of couples are sleeping in separate bedrooms because of their partner’s snoring loud.

Rhinoplasty is good for a healthy sleep

Sleeping is just as important as diet and exercise for overall health. Breathe anomalies are causes frequent awakenings and problems such as snoring or sleep apnea. It is also possible that the sleep will be disturbed by his/her partner. Nose Job surgery can also fix sleep disorders.

Reduces the frequency of upper respiratory infections!

When the nose is clogged, this condition causes the patient to breathe very often. In addition, nasal congestion adversely affects the ears through the eustachian tube. Changes in the structure of the mouth and face due to breathing through the mouth, tooth decay, bad breath and bad taste in the mouth occur. The incidence of upper respiratory tract infections decreases significantly when the inner part of the nose is also corrected with this procedure.

What is Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

A skilled plastic surgeon may help straighten the lumps that occurred because of impact, reshape the tip of the nose and improve the symmetry of the nose by strategically injecting the filler material in certain points in the nose.
Unlike rhinoplasty, the results of non-*surgical nose job results aren’t permanent.

Opinions of Patients

The success of a rhinoplasty greatly relies on the plastic surgeon’s aesthetic perspective and manual skill, even more so than in other surgical procedures. Achieving a successful outcome and contentment with the results not only of the surgeon’s experiences and technical capability but also their keen aesthetic sensibility.

You can explore the post-operative stories of our patients who have undergone rhinoplasty at our clinic below:

Noses with Nasal Humps

There may be bulges in the shape of lumps on the nose bridge that usually result from genetic reasons. They may be removed especially to improve the profile.

Silicone Tampon

It helps you support your reshaped nose and prevents accidental contacts. The tampon is usually removed a week later after.

Breathing Easier

Curvatures and the extra tissue within the nose that is not visible from the outside and that block the airline can be corrected during rhinoplasty in order to ensure breathing in a better way.

Questions To Ask Your Surgeon

Get informed about the security of plastic surgery by making a general list of questions to ask your surgeon. Following these suggestions and asking these questions may be helpful to plan your procedure:

Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty procedures can be applied to patients for cosmetic and/or functional purposes. After the necessary examinations are made, it is decided that the people who are suitable for nose surgery will have surgery. Those who are suitable for nose surgery can be summarized as follows, if;

  • Your face growth is complete
  • You are physically healthy
  • You have realistic goals for improving your appearance
  • You have no health problems
  • You are psychologically affected by the nose deformity
  • You don’t have imaginary expectations for rhinoplasty
  • You are over 18

While some of these problems affect both the psychology and health of the person, some of them leave great psychological effects. This situation, which makes the person unhappy, is reflected in the person’s marriage, work, school and social life. In such cases, aesthetic surgery can be performed.

Are the results I expect from rhinoplasty reasonable and realistic?

Rhinoplasty surgeons can achieve some pretty incredible things with modern rhinoplasty techniques, but there are limits to what to expect. You have to forget about the nose you saw in magazines and thought it was perfect for you! Rhinoplasty is an operation that involves changing not only your nose but also your entire facial structure. During your rhinoplasty consultation, it’s better to keep an open mind to hear your surgeon recommend what is the “perfect” nose for you. With a better understanding of the procedure and a more thoughtful approach to your results, your chances of achieving the results you want and full satisfaction increase.

Will there be a visible scar? Where will the scars be?

With a surgical procedure performed in such a visible location, most people considering rhinoplasty are understandably concerned about the scars that may result from the surgery. In some cases, it actually leaves no trace; in other cases, there is a small scar in a hidden place.

Endonasal (closed) rhinoplasty leaves no visible scars. Of course, any surgical procedure leaves some kind of scar. Since the incisions are made through the nose with closed rhinoplasty, the resulting scars will be invisible. The recovery period also tends to be easier than with open rhinoplasty, with less bruising and swelling.

Which type of anesthesia do you suggest for me?

The type of anesthesia is very important for where the rhinoplasty surgeon will decide to perform his procedure. Various anesthesia options are available and you should discuss these different anesthesia techniques with your rhinoplasty surgeon.

General anesthesia means that the patient is completely asleep and unaware of the environment. The patient is intubated, that is, a tube is inserted into his throat (trachea), which is connected to an anesthesia machine. Although there is no definitive study comparing general anesthesia with other methods for rhinoplasty, many patients similarly avoid general anesthesia or fear general anesthesia and prefer less invasive options instead.

During conscious sedation, the patient relaxes, does not feel discomfort and is unaware of his surroundings. This is different from general anesthesia, with conscious sedation, the patient breathes by himself without the need for a respiratory anesthesia machine. Usually, extra oxygen is given through small plastic pipes placed near the mouth. This method of anesthesia requires an anesthesiologist experienced in conscious sedation, a skill often gained by working in outpatient surgical centers.

What should I do to get the best result?

With a better understanding of the procedure and a more thoughtful approach to your results, your chances of achieving the results you want and full satisfaction increase. To get the best results from Rhinoplasty surgery, you should pay attention to the following:

  • Have realistic expectations
  • Communicate your goals
  • Follow postoperative instructions
  • Choose an experienced surgeon

What kind of rhinoplasty recovery period may I expect and how can I go back to normal activities?

The average recovery time for someone who has had rhinoplasty surgery is one year. This may sound like a long time, but it becomes much more manageable when broken down into a timeline. The following healing steps may vary from patient to patient, but generally look something like this:

1 Week: The splint on your nose can be removed and you can go out in public without showing any visible signs of surgery unless there is a bruise around the eyes. This can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. It is safe to continue activities of daily living.

2 weeks: Most of the facial swelling has gone down and most of the bruises should be gone.

3-4 Weeks: You can safely return to cardiovascular activities such as running, swimming and cycling.

6 Weeks: Bones are stable, you can continue with resistance exercises (lifting weights), wearing glasses and blowing your nose.

3-6 months: Numbness and abnormal sensations in your nose and nasal skin should be relieved.

1 Year: The healing process is complete – the swelling should have completely subsided and the new shape of the nose should have completely thinned.

What are the risks and complications about rhinoplasty?

In cases where the expectations of the patient and the physician do not always overlap, many risks can be observed in the rhinoplasty procedure. Rhinoplasty surgery risks include:

  • Anesthesia risks
  • Change in skin sensation (numbness or pain)
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Infection
  • Nasal septal perforation (a hole in the nasal septum) is rare. Additional surgical treatment may be necessary to repair the septum but it may be impossible to correct this complication
  • Poor wound healing or scarring
  • Possibility of revisional surgery
  • Skin discoloration and swelling
  • Unsatisfactory nasal appearance

How are complications prevented?

One of the unexpected and unexpected situations that may occur during surgery is excessive bleeding in the nasal tissue. Although low blood pressure anesthesia and drugs that reduce bleeding are used, sometimes in very rare cases, the patient’s nose may bleed more than normal during the operation. The reason for this situation may be due to the use of drugs containing aspirin or aspirin-like blood thinners one week before the patient’s rhinoplasty surgery. These bleedings are usually brought under control (by lowering blood pressure) with the help of an anesthesiologist. Do you want to know what is the most common complaint after rhinoplasty surgery? Not pain, pressure, headache or even discomfort. In fact, rhinoplasty surgery is rarely very painful. The most common symptom is nasal congestion. Most surgeons can use some nasal packing or splint after surgery to reduce bleeding.

Aesthetic Surgeries That Can Be Combined With Rhinoplasty

Many patients choose to have additional treatments at the same time because the nose has a very significant role on the face structure. In addition, because a recovery period is already going to be experienced, it is very logical to fit the recovery periods of other procedures in this period. These procedures help protect the balance of the face and give more apparent and more dramatic results. In most cases, it is safe to combine rhinoplasty with one or more additional treatments. In addition, patients should choose the best rhinoplasty surgeons that are experienced in all areas of face plastic surgery for safety and to get good results. As the Vanity family, we are with you in time to help with your choice in Turkey.
